On Saturday 29 October some of Shanghai’s biggest restaurants, including Goga, Madison and El Patio host Chi Fan for Charity, a one-off dining event with all the proceeds going to good causes.
The event, which has taken place in Beijing since 2009, comes to Shanghai for the first time this year and hopes to raise 200,000RMB for three local charities - Chi Heng Foundation, Heart to Heart Shanghai and Compassion for Migrant Children.
On the night guests will enjoy specially-designed menus at tables hosted by local celebrities, such as the UK Telegraph’s Malcolm Moore, Su Lim and Lisa Wang, founders of facial spa The Sanctuary and chef David Laris, who will both be hosting and personally cooking for each of the guests at his 12 Chairs.
After the meal, all the guests will come together for an after-party at Cafe Sambal with free-flowing drinks, a raffle and a DJ spinning beats until 1am. There is also a chance to donate further to charity with a silent auction of prizes at the after-party such as hotel stays, weekend brunch at Le Meridien Hotel and gourmet dinners.
The event ‘takes the standard concept of a large gala charity dinner and throws it out the window,’ says Kelly Olver of Austen Morris Associates, the Organising Partners of the event, adding ‘the three charities were chosen because it was important to have transparency and projects where our funds could make a difference.’
For more information on the three charities, see the Chi Fan website.
Book Ahead: Tickets for the dinners are still available at a host of the restaurants, including 12 Chairs and Madison, costing from 500RMB to 1,500RMB per person, although places are selling fast. Book your place at www.chifanforcharity.org
