Time Out exclusive DJ mix: DJ Roo

The freshest in drum 'n' bass from the Shanghai-via-London DJ

The Time Out Mix Series showcases the best in locally-based talent by presenting a 30 min mix from a different locally-based DJ each month.

DJ Roo is no upstart, no Johnny-come-lately to the DJ. Despite having been in Shanghai for only five years, he's been a DJ much, much longer. Roo (or James Lealand as his friends call him) cut his teeth in the early '00s London acid techno scene. As he tells us in our interview with him, it was a job at a record store in London that allowed him to branch out further into drum'n'bass and he hasn't looked back since. Although he can sometimes be seen around town DJing techno and house as James Lealand, this mix sees him present a fresh selection of some of the most exciting drum'n'bass around.
