Finally some good news from Shanghai's nightlife scene: after months of uncertainty, Arkham has announced it plans to reopen at the end of April in the semi-submerged, formerly sinful complex, Found 158 on Julu Lu. Arkham shut its Wulumuqi Lu underground venue
back in November, first saying the closure would be temporary. It was a great space, but here's hoping the new spot will be worth the wait.
Found 158 is also the new home to JZ Club
, pizza joint Homeslice
and fish and chip, poke and craft beer spot Hooked. Hooked is currently hosting a pop-up by the recently-departed Bull & Claw
, who say they’re ‘couch surfing’ until they can open Bull & Claw 2.0 and get back to cooking those steaks. For now, they’ll be doing dinner services through this Sunday 19 February, plus the weekend will bring back their well-known booze-laden brunch with signature cocktails, awesome eats and free-flow of beer, wine and sparkling (128RMB) until 3pm. You’ll be able to choose one two or three courses for 85, 145 and 165RMB respectively. We’d suggest booking a table for this one; call 6333 2198 to do that and we’ll probably see you there.
And that’s not all that’s opening up in Found 158, you'll also find more former Yongkang Lu food and drink favourites in progress. Slated for a move in the near future is German brauhaus Zapfler (though it was supposedly meant to open in January), an outpost of popular boozer Le Cafe des Stagiaires and El Luchador's latest incarnation, El Santo.
It’s still hard to imagine that the Found 158 space will serve as an adequate replacement for Shanghai’s favourite bar street… but people are trying very hard to make it so. We’re down to give it a shot.
