Patriots Day

This film about the Boston Marathon bombing is far from a flag-waving celebration of nationalism like the title would suggest. Instead, expect a gritty and gripping yet even-handed retelling that sheds light on all perspectives, without grand-standing heroism or caricatured villainy.

Justice League

Definitely no Citizen Kane, or even a Batman Returns, but Justice League does qualify as some sort of 'cinematic event'. This latest entry into the DC Comics cinematic universe is a tonal Frankenstein's creation. That is to say, there are some funny parts, some cartoony parts, some electrified parts, many reanimated corpse parts, but altogether it's still a face only a mother could love. Even then, it's not without qualification. Go in with low expectations, come out mildly entertained. Or, be a DC Comics super-fan, see your childhood brought to life on the big screen, but by some twisted turn of fate (not really, though), your nostalgia is only worth a barely okay movie.
