Shanghai is to get a new live music venue with the opening of Shanhai (山海) Livehouse next month on Aomen Lu, a couple of blocks from the M50 art complex.

The livehouse is a new venture from Lezi (pictured above) who is the drummer in Sonnet, Top Floor Circus and Pinkberry, runs locally-based Zhulu Hefeng Records and was formerly a manager at the old MAO Livehouse. Due to open at the end of September, Shanhai will host 400-500 people – ‘bigger than YYT, smaller than MAO Livehouse’ according to our sources – and will occupy two floors. They're already booking shows for October so keep an eye on this website and the next issue of Time Out for more details.

Come see those same expat faces on Nov 11th, when Moon Tyrant shares the stage with Androsace, Chaos Mind, and ANN. Even better, come enjoy some music without focusing on the ethnicity of the musicians!

Finally! Let"s cross fingers that is gonna be something more original + with more local (chinese) playing there., We got pretty sick of venues like YYT that shows always the same bunch of expat faces on stage!
