What better way to celebrate today's Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day or Mardi Gras, than with some of the most indulgent pancakes in Shanghai.
Voted as part of Time Out Shanghai's 50 best dishes in Shanghai, the banana caramel pancakes (75RMB) at The Pantry on the 87th floor of the Park Hyatt hotel are one of our favourite breakfast splurges in the city. The stack of four fluffy saucer-sized pancakes, created by chef Gerhard Passrugger, come enrobed in caramel like liquid satin and topped with caramel-coated banana.
Topped with a splodge of lightly-whipped cream (finished with a mint sprig) they are so beautifully buttery you’ll want to scrape every last morsel off the plate.
We also recommend Mr Pancake House, which we love for it's hearty, but inexpensive breakfast sets and American style thick, fluffy buttermilk pancakes and La Creperie for its satisfyingly-thin classic French-style crepes.
If you really want to get into the Mardi Gras spirit enter our competition to win tickets to MAO Livehouse's Brazilian Carnaval on Saturday 25 February.
