Have you ever bitten into a hot and juicy beef burger and thought, gosh, wouldn't it be great if instead of an Australian cow meat patty, this burger had an ice cold cow cream patty and I could eat it for dessert? No? Well the day-dream you didn't have has come true. Charlie’s has expanded their burger menu to now include ice cream burgers.
Yes, you read that right. The ‘burgers’ are served on Charlie's trademark (and perhaps controversial) brioche hamburger buns, with their ice cream, which is made in-house, sandwiched in between to make for an odd concoction of sweet and savoury.
The ice cream burgers come in three ‘off-the-palate’ flavour combos, some mixing ingredients which you might want to keep on separate sides of the kitchen: chocolate with raspberry and pistachio; peanut butter with bacon; and toffee-infused coffee ice cream with Froot Loops and a pineapple crisp. Once you're past the heaping tower of brain freeze, the taste of each one is... not bad, but whacky.
If you're looking for an enjoyable dessert experience, the chocolate raspberry and pistachio combo is easiest on the palate of the three. But if you just want to update your WeChat moments, go for the Froot Loop concoction, as it's the most Willy Wonka-esque. The ice cream burgers are only available at Charlie’s Fengshengli location, near Nanjing Xi Lu metro station, and they are going for 30RMB each. Watch our video coverage of them below.
