Kerry Hotel Pudong is further upping the five star hotel ante with the 6,000sqm Kerry Sports centre – the biggest fitness space in Shanghai. Included in the sprawling facility is a 24-hour gym, a 25-metre swimming pool (open 6am-11pm daily), a kids 'Adventure Zone' play centre (10am-9pm Mon-Fri, 9am-10pm Sat-Sun) and, on the roof, basketball and tennis courts (6am - 11pm) as well as a running track with views across to Lujiazui.
The huge gym, lit by floor-to-ceiling windows and containing 80 exercise machines, is decidedly futuristic – cycling and running machines and cross-trainers are equipped with USB ports, iPod charging docs and TV screens. There's the city’s only swimming and kayaking machine in the 'Triathlon Suite'; and a 'Body Combat Zone' for personal training. Round the gym there are four studios for the likes of hot yoga, spinning and pilates, which uses state-of-the-art reformer beds. Plus, the Kerry Spa, offers massages and facials with a sports focus – you do simple exercises before massages to increase the benefit for your muscles.
It's all very impressive, but be warned: Kerry Sports has prices to match. Family membership is 39,750RMB/year for two adults and a child's membership to the Adventure Zone, a 700sqm play space with three slides and a ball pool for kids. Individual memberships are 15,250RMB/six months or 22,000RMB/year.
