American fashion brand's huge flagship store on Nanjing Dong Lu
With huge yellow billboards looming over Nanjing Dong Lu for nearly a year, Forever 21 is one of Shanghai's most anticipated shop openings since the Apple store. The American fast-fashion high street phenomenon finally opened its doors at 11am on Saturday 29 September to hoardes of young shoppers, some of whom had reportedly been queuing since 4am to get through the doors and be among the first 400 shoppers elegible to receive 100RMB gift cards and free gifts.

At 8,000sqm, the Shanghai branch is now the largest in Asia, and the China flagship store (overtaking Beijing's APM Mall opening last month), with four storeys of wallet-friendly fashion covering all manner of trends, from autumn-pastel chiffon blouses and comfy denim on the first floor to neon-brights and '80s chic on the upper floors. We even spotted a corner full of pleather and leopard-print which looked eerily similar to last summer's 'hooker-chic'Versace for H&M collection.

Highlights we spied include jersey Peplum tops, one of this season's 'must buys' for only 73.90RMB, faux-leather pencil skirts at 199RMB and a Chanel-inspired tweed box jacket for 239RMB.

There is also a small token menswear section on the third floor brimming with Topman-style casual basics including flannel shirts, hooded sweaters and bomber jackets.

If you can't face the hordes to grab a bargain, head to the online store at www.forever21.cn where you can browse through all the stock on a very intuitive and picture lead website, before ordering with a Paypal or Alipay account, Alipay card or international credit card.
