Gorgeous trinkets for the home
There are many reasons to visit Showroom, a secret shop in a crumbling residential villa complex in the French Concession. Opened last November, it’s more of a concept store than a commercial venture, and is run by a lovely Japanese lady who is also a furniture designer.
The cosy, light-filled space is full of handmade curios such as taupe ceramic bowls (40-120RMB) and wooden photo frames (100-150RMB) that are joined in the traditional Chinese no-nail way. This same technique is used on a small collection of customisable furniture (a family-sized table costs 6,800RMB) made from reclaimed wood. Showroom also puts on small-scale exhibitions and events.
