BeCycle is a sleek and modern addition to the new Anken Lifestyle building, which opened earlier this year. Set up and operated by a team of Colombian and Mexican friends, the studio offers a range of fat-burning classes, including a 6.30am start for early birds.
The classes, run by enthusiastic instructors to pumping music, progress alongside video footage of dramatic scenery, giving us the illusion that we are cycling through a sweeping Costa Rican landscape. This is a nice addition to the class and helps us drift away from everyday stresses. BeCycle also offers a ‘train yourself’ package, where you can use the bikes at your own pace.
If you’ve never tried a spinning class before, this is a good place to start – the managers and instructors are all avid cyclists and will take time to show you how to use and adjust your bike, as well as talk through the workout benefits. The first class at BeCycle is free, and following sessions cost 150RMB each.
By the end of our session we were feeling energised rather than exhausted, if rather sweaty. Luckily, the changing rooms are well kitted out with both showers and saunas.
