Following the popular ‘spinning in a nightclub’ movement, MOVEM’s first boutique spinning studio in Shanghai is a full-on cardio party. As the 45-minute session starts, UV lights are switched on, music is turned up and the beat sets the pace. Founders Carter Wang and Yiping Wu became passionate fitness fanatics while studying in the US, and want to bring their enthusiasm to Shanghai.
Unlike training unsupervised in traditional gym chains that try to sell you personal training memberships, MOVEM focuses on specific group fitness classes to be purchased in packages. And while there’s no pressure to perform, the pack mentality does keep you pumping non-stop.
When you’re done with the workout, soap, shampoo and conditioner from H.S. Make’s range of natural beauty and wellness products await you in the showers (slap on the body lotion too). And cycle shoes are provided.
MOVEM’s class isn’t exactly reinventing the spin-party wheel, but it’s a fun new addition to Shanghai’s indoor-cycling scene.
