Since 1965 when the first SONY Portapak was available in Japan, artists across the globe has been experimenting with the medium ever since. The last exhibition of OCAT Shanghai in 2020 examines the development of East Asia video art and tries to understand the contribution that East Asia video artists have made to the global history of video art. Expect to see some iconic works including Nam June Paik’s video installation TV Buddha (1974-2002) and Katsuhiro Yamaguchi’s CCTV interactive video installations Las Meninas (1974-1975) as well as some new works such as Two Square Meter Space (1995-2020) by Wang Gongxin.
