The second exhibition of UCCA Edge presents one of the pioneers of Chinese New Realism painter, Liu Xiaodong. Highly praised by art critics such as Jérôme Sans, Liu's art captures the lives of common people caught in China's fast socio-economic development. From 2000, his works started to centre on people from internationally controversial areas such as the U.S-Mexico border. This retrospective exhibition shows 30 oil paintings and 80 watercolours throughout his career including those from his latest series ‘Your Friends’ (where he painted his artist friends during pandemic), together with manuscripts, dairies and a new documentary made by Yangbo about the artist.
