The shortlist

Daniel An was already making a name for himself at Taste Buds but this year has been his biggest yet, opening fast favourite Shrine and Factory in the United Valley complex.

Union might be a neighbourhood bar but that's only because it chooses to be. It's a perennial favourite with a steady stream of international bartenders rolling through – mostly just so they can work with Yao Lu. Top drinks and great service.

Puerto Rican Macarena Rotger might have only arrived in China this year but she has stamped her personality all over 1515 West – which has assumed the Morton's mantle for happy hour, by the way – and hosts some of the world's best bartenders.

These days you're lucky to see Eddy Yang at Tailor Bar because he is in such demand in Shanghai, around China and internationally. When you do see him, though, it's more than worth the wait.
Cross Yu, Epic

Epic is still where those in the know go to drink and the main reason for that is Cross Yu. As knowledgable as he is well dressed, Cross makes it all about you.

The Nest impresses everyone and a lot of that is down to Carson Xie's skills as a bartender, where he turns out stellar drinks at a pace where most bars would be at breaking point. Unflappable.
