The only gig spot in Shanghai consistently putting on such a wide variety of original live music, Yuyintang is beloved by bands and fans alike – and with good reason. Their programming this year could have been a little more selective, but it’s still been another impressive 12 months for a venue that continues to be the heart and soul of the city’s rock scene, with a string of memorable shows from both local bands and international acts.

We, along with many in Shanghai, were gutted when we heard that JZ Club’s long- running Fuxing Lu spot was set to close, but following an emotional farewell they’ve bounced back with a stylish new space that still retains plenty of atmosphere.
