Bartender of the Year

See the winners of the Time Out Love Shanghai Awards 2016

You told us what you love about your city in this year’s Love Shanghai Awards – and we threw in a few picks of our own. Now we’re ripping off the wrapping and showing you the crème de la crème of Shanghai. See all the winners below.

Winner Yao Lu, Union Trading Company

He gets the spotlight all the damn time, you might be thinking (and if you’re not, you should). But there’s a very good reason for that, and that’s because he’s great. From winning the Chivas Masters cocktail competition to the Best Bartender award from industry mag DRiNK Magazine, Yao Lu’s been killing it on all fronts this year – and most importantly, making sure you get a great drink every time you’re at Union.

It felt like the excellent Taste Buds Cocktail Palace had only just flung open its doors when Daniel An dropped the news that he had another, Shrine, in the works. If it’s not at these two ventures, you’ll find An shaking up something delicious at one of the many events around town he gets involved in. Can’t stop, won’t stop.

Readers’ Choice Macarena Rotger, 1515 West Bar

While she might have only arrived in China this year, Macarena Rotger has left an indelible mark on 1515 West, making it so much more than 'just a hotel bar'. Outstanding cocktails are par for the course, whether it's on or off the menu.
