A quick one here: Last night in London, The World's 50 Best Bars announced the 2019 edition of its annual list, with two Shanghai bars recognised for their boozy excellence. Shingo Gokan's
Speak Low and
Sober Company came in at numbers 35 and 45, respectively.
A recent regular on the list and its regional companion Asia's 50 Best Bars, Gokan's appearance isn't much of a shock. In May, he was named the 2019 Asia's 50 Best Bartenders' Bartender and last night, his new Tokyo bar The SG Club also joined the ranks as a new entry at number 24. This is the first year that Sober Company has made the list while Speak Low placed number 20 in 2018. The two bars are Mainland China's only entries.
The title of The World's Best Bar for 2019 went to Dante, an Italian-style aperitivo bar in New York.
