Some exciting news for the city’s creatives (and the rest of us just amped to get outside for the upcoming warmer weather), Common Rare’s ever-expanding outdoor market is back. Showcasing wares from Shanghai’s independent designer scene, the market returns next weekend (Fri 16-Sun 18) with art installations, performances and nearly 200 local and international brands taking over Shanghai Culture Square to champion their artisanal goods.

The full lineup of artists strutting their stuff is a lengthy one (click here for that) but featured so far are illustrators like Rakel, Visenlab and Hani Park who, along with another 20 artists, will be behind booths where you can pick up their canvas prints. The list of lifestyle vendors is even longer (a lot longer) and you’ll probably need at least five tote bags to fill up on all the ceramics, handcrafted jewellery, old vinyls, indie fashion, scented candles and more on offer.

While the shopping steals much of spotlight, there's also plenty to look forward to in the food and drink department. Expect appearances from Shanghai favourites like Homeslice, Spread the Bagel, Styx and La Coyota, while on the sweet side there'll be ice cream from Gelato Dal Cuore, matcha-based desserts from La Matcha or Common Rare’s own Fuki cookies (usually only available online).

Pets can get involved in the indie action. Along with an adoption area from non-profit rescue group THE SOMEONE, they can join their owners in decking themselves out with designer gear from pet brands like Lazy Easy, Gasu Lab and Gigiwawa – to name a few.

All this is happening next weekend at Shanghai Culture Square. While early-bird tickets are available for Friday 16 (50RMB) or Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 (60RMB), you can also go for a VIP Ticket (179RMB) that contains a load of different goodies from niche brands ranging from a pizza box to a riso print, cleansing foam, drip coffee bag, hand sanitizer and a mystery gift from one of the market's vendors.
