Big reggae events aren’t exactly commonplace in Shanghai – a shame if you ask us, but all the more reason to make the most of it when they come around. So, mark your diaries as DJ collective Shanghai Dancehall are going all out at LOFAS tomorrow (Friday 16) with The Link-Up, a night dedicated to roots, dub, afro, dancehall and more.

Pulling in heavy hitters from China’s reggae community, the night gives a platform to artists from both Beijing and Shanghai with a lineup that represents and merges the different reggae worlds from the two big cities. Repping the capital is General Huge, a big name in the scene in China and co-founder of the country’s first dedicated reggae label. Alongside him will be fellow singer Zulu Bob and DJ Sistakilla.L.

Meanwhile, from Shanghai there’ll be a set by Ghanaian afro singer JAC 45 (‘Too Many Girls’ and ‘Nana Ama’). He’ll also be joined by Shanghai Dancehall DJs Dubshottas, Kyle B., Mousetrap and Shanghai Yard, and US hip-hop MC Skinny OG – who co-founded the Black China Music Company.

Proceedings will get under way at 9pm and tickets include a drink. Whether you're well into the scene or looking for something new, get ready for a reggae-packed evening beyond the usual Bob Marley you might know.

The Link-Up: Beijing meets Shanghai Inna Reggae Style is happening tomorrow night, Friday 16, at LOFAS. Tickets are 100RMB on the door or 75RMB presale (buy tickets online).
