The annual Single's Day shopping frenzy is right around the corner which means some greats deals, yes, but also huge amounts of waste – 11.11 alone creates over 300,000 tons of packaging in a single day. If you want to keep the deals but lose the waste, the good people at eco-brand and shopping platform Boomi are doing
something about it with the return of their offline Single's Day Market at On Air Space, committed to no extra
packaging, no unnecessary purchasing and no extra delivery vehicles.
P.E.T. eyemask made from two recycled plastic bottles
Boomi's co-founder Miguel Boy explains that the market, which kicks off at midday on Sunday (November 8), 'creates a space to reconnect with our community by discovering local conscious brands that will offer crazy discounts without generating waste in one of the most wasteful seasons of the year.' There will be stalls from over 30 sustainable brands all offering 11.11 specials – like zero-waste household essentials from Baluchon, skincare from Zest and NUDE by Korea, recycled plastic wares from P.E.T. and lots more – as well as food and drink vendors picked with the conscious consumer in mind.
San Xia bamboo steamers and baskets
Alongside the market, there will be a clothes swap from Savvy Exchanger and awareness-building workshops with the likes of LUÜNA Naturals and dōTERRA (find out more and RSVP here). Plus bring your old plastic toothbrush and Boomi will swap it out for one of the bamboo brushes.
As Boy puts it: 'Treating yourself can be planet-friendly', and that's what this market is all about.
