A Game of Marbles, Garden Produce & Culinary Ingenuity at FLINT

Step into FLINT Grill g Bar, a New York-style steakhouse at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong.

A Taste of the High Life — Literally

Straight from the brilliant minds behind Dubai’s sky-high icon, the Burj Khalifa, the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong has also made its own mark on the Shanghai skyline since 2019.

Reserved for the brand’s top-tier properties, “Marquis” means bigger everything: bolder design, better service, and more reasons to book a table, stat. From The Big Apple to The Bund The hotel’s Western-style restaurant FLINT Grill & Bar channels mid-19th-century New York — think power lunches, prime cuts, and plenty of swagger. It’s industrial-chic, heavy on the steakhouse nostalgia, and home to a brand-new “secret” menu launched just this past weekend.

A Secret Menu Worth Whispering About

The hush-hush offering is part of The Culinary Atelier, a nationwide programme by Marriott’s Luxury Group. Only 25 restaurants in China are participating in the programme, and FLINT’s one of them — likely thanks to Chef de Cuisine Jason Wang, a kitchen veteran with over 15 years of fine-dining cred.

Dubbed ‘Symphony of Land & Sea,’ the multi-course menu leans heavily into luxe surf-and-turf territory: USDA Prime T-Bones, Australian Wagyu, and cooking techniques fancy enough to make a chef blush.

Reverse-searing, anyone? It’s low-and-slow until the final sizzle — ideal for thick cuts and flavour-packed finishes.

What’s more, the multi-course menu will see well-considered American wine pairings by a professional sommelier.

Farm to Fancy Fork

Here’s a fresh twist: some of the dinner’s components will have come directly from the hotel’s very own backyard.

The JW Garden, clocking in at 150 square metres, grows 32 types of fruits, veggies, and herbs — and guests can roll up their sleeves and join the harvest if they’re feeling green-thumbed (per special request).

Play with Your Food — Just This Once

Dinner ends on a playful note with a game of marbles served alongside your final sweet. It’s a fun finale that ensures that your meal isn’t just memorable, but downright unforgettable.

“Food should not be confined by definitions but should be a journey of free exploration.”
