You told us what you love about your city in this year’s Love Shanghai Awards – and we threw in a few picks of our own. Now we’re ripping off the wrapping and showing you the crème de la crème of Shanghai. See all the winners below.
Food Personality of the Year Camden Hauge, EGG
What doesn’t Camden Hauge do? She’s a force to be reckoned with – not because of a formidable personality (and one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet) but when it feels like there are a million food events on, you can bet it’s because of her. Shanghai Supperclub, chef residencies her café EGG, FEAST food festival, pop-up dinner series BEATS + BITES, events and catering company Social Supply – it’s all Hauge.
In a city with a strong international food scene, we’re delighted that there’s someone pulling up the hood and tinkering around with the nuts and bolts of Chinese food. With his ‘pidgin Chinese’ cuisine pop-up series Yang Jing Bang, Nat Alexander is the Doc Brown of Shanghai cooking.
One half of the power couple behind the stellar kitchen programme at The Commune Social, Kim Melvin seriously impresses in the pastry department, continually challenging our conception of what dessert can be. It's clear the public has taken note – and so have we.
