So much pizza, so little time. With three newly
opened spots focusing on pizzas served by
the slice, we're dishing out the ones
you need to try right now.
You’ll be hard-pressed to pick a favourite slice from New York-style pizzeria Homeslice, because you’ll love everything it’s got, but we have a particular affinity for the white pizza.
The 48-hour cold-fermented dough, which makes for a flavourful, airy crust with lots of bubbles, is slathered with rich Parmesan cream and topped with a bit of garlic, heaps of mozzarella and dollops of fresh ricotta. So effin’ good.
Also try Roasted artichoke and house-made fennel sausage pizza with Parmesan cream and lemon zest.
Straight from Greenwich Village comes Joe’s Pizza,
the place to head for time-honoured NYC-style slices
on the fly. Over here, go old school with one of the giant
slices of classic pepperoni pizza.
It’s laden with Joe’s
secret recipe sauce (the same one used at the NY
locales), Wisconsin mozzarella and loads of zesty ‘roni.
Don’t forget a few dashes of hot sauce.
Also try Classic Joe’s cheese pizza… after all, it’s a
New York staple.
At Zozzo, you’ll find bona fide pizza al taglio – aka
Roman street-style pizza – where slices come in
squares. Get stuck into the designer ‘Gucci’ pizza:
luscious pumpkin cream made with Philadelphia
cream cheese, scamorza and mozzarella cheeses
and paper-thin pieces of salty pancetta.
You can
take it home, but owner Giampaolo de Santis will
persuade you to eat your slice there while it’s hot
and fresh.
Also try Off-menu special slices (which change daily),
like burrata cheese with Parma ham.
