After a long-awaited return, KAWS:HOLIDAY is making its eleventh stop in the vibrant international metropolis of Shanghai! The iconic character COMPANION will make a grand appearance at the renowned North Bund dock along the Huangpu River, featuring a brand-new design: a large inflatable art installation of COMPANION sitting leisurely, holding the moon, and gazing at the sky. This marks the first light sculpture in the KAWS:HOLIDAY series.
International artist KAWS, in collaboration with long-time partner AllRightsReserved, has teamed up with JFJ Productions and invited them as co-organizers in Shanghai to create this major city art event. The new COMPANION design, the first light sculpture in the KAWS:HOLIDAY series, will be on display at the North Bund dock from August 29 to September 1, 2024. Coinciding with the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, the artwork reflects the festival’s tradition of lighting lanterns and offering sincere blessings, inviting everyone to embark on a journey of art and culture through this millennia-old celebration.
The grand opening ceremony of KAWS:HOLIDAY Shanghai took place tonight at the exhibition site, attended by KAWS, AllRightsReserved founder SK, JFJ Productions founder and renowned artist JJ Lin. The ceremony reached its climax with an opening music piece personally produced by JJ Lin. As the sun set and the moon rose, the COMPANION sculpture, holding the moon and gazing at the sky, was illuminated, creating an artistic atmosphere along the Huangpu River and its skyline, fostering a dialogue between art and the city.

In celebration of the grand opening of "KAWS: HOLIDAY" Shanghai, KAWS, in collaboration with AllRightsReserved, has launched a series of exclusive collectibles, including the highly anticipated limited edition "COMPANION" collectible. The "COMPANION" figures in this series are approximately 9.5 inches long and are presented in classic brown, black, and grey colorways. The moon components of the figure and the outer box printing are made with fluorescent material, adding a distinctive feature to the collection. The limited edition hoodie also incorporates a thoughtful detail, with reflective material added to the back print to enhance the effect.
These precious collectibles will be available for sale starting from 8:30 PM (UTC+8) today, at the Shanghai Kerry Centre pop-up store, and will also be exclusively pre-order on DDT Store starting from 10:00 PM (UTC+8) today. Due to limited quantities, all products are on a first come, first served basis until sold out.
