How to get to Wuzhen and where to stay

Travel and accommodation tips for planning a trip to Wuzhen

Wuzhen is one of the prettiest water towns near Shanghai
How to get there A direct bus runs from Shanghai South Long Distance Bus Station to Wuzhen at 9.45am for 46RMB one way (a later bus is available at 4.25pm for the same price). The east area of the water town is a ten minute walk away. There are also regular services between Wuzhen and Jiashan railway station if you'd rather take a high-speed train part of the way.

Where to stay There's a wide range of accommodation options available, ranging from small guesthouses charging around 150RMB a night, up to fancy hotels with prices that add an extra zero to that figure. If you can, find a property within one of the scenic zones - they're best at night when the crowds have dispersed and this is also where you'll find most of the street theatre.

Ctrip has a good selection of properties and you'll want to book ahead if you're visiting during the festival - there'll be little or no availability if you just show up.
