Germany doesn’t have ‘craft breweries’, they just have ‘breweries.’ This brick and mortar space for former Yongkang Lu residents Zapfler takes the pretence out of premium suds. Their craft brews go for 30 (Small) 50 (Large) or 300 RMB for a three litre keg, with plenty of choice on tap; from pilsners and IPAs, to tall wheat varieties. The smoked lager is a distinctive must, and the Kefir Lime and Ginger lagers are a refreshing choices for when Shanghai turns sultry come summer.
If you’re looking for more than just pretzels to soak up all those hops, the kitchen serves a mean Cold Cut Board for 88 RMB and the Meat Loaf Ring – Germany’s own take on the burger – is a steal at 40 RMB.
