For their Donghu Lu opening, Shanghai Brewery have gone with a different feel and menu from their previous branches. In place of the big screen sports and copper brewing tanks (fake in the case of the Hengshan Lu outlet), there's a
Great Gatsby/swinging Shanghai theme and a proper cocktail list to go with the range of microbrews.
Food-wise, things are considerably different too. Where the chain's other branches play it safe with standard pub grub, on Donghu Lu things are a little more adventurous - a pumpkin salad with spicy popcorn where you'd expect green leaves, for example, or an 'open' vegetarian lasagna which turns out to be a mess of pesto-smeared pasta with new potatoes and cherry tomatoes topped by a breaded poached egg.
