The Grumpy Pig, co-owned by Gary Wang and Scott Lau, is a pork-centric restaurant that cooks up tasty dishes inspired by the team's heritage and travels.
Highlights from the start of the menu include the Grumpy Fries (45RMB) and the Steamed Buns (25RMB/2 pieces). The former is a truly delicious combination of skinny fries, pork, onions, cheese and parsley aioli, topped off with seaweed. The latter is another must-order dish stuffing fluffy white buns with either ‘Millionaire’s bacon’ or braised pork belly.
If you’re looking for something a little more substantial, try the spiced pork soup noodles (a bargain at 38RMB) or the Cod Rice Bowl (65RMB). The fish provides a nice contrast to some of the menu’s more pork-focused dishes, serving up a succulent, aromatic fillet of wild-caught Icelandic cod on a bowl of rice drizzled with a sticky miso butter sauce.
From the dessert menu, the Crack Pie (30RMB) is a decadent and delicious mix of butterscotch, peanut butter and chocolate chips with an oatmeal cookie crust. The banana-goji cream with chocolate crumble (25RMB) is another win, served in a glass jar accompanied by some very addictive peanut butter whipped cream.
Tucked behind the KIN storefront, The Grumpy Pig’s cosy dining area includes plenty of space to spread out and enjoy food that’s well priced, well cooked and well worth eating.
