Sandwiched between a row of strip-lit hairdressers near Xintiandi, the two-year-old Sanai TCM Clinic certainly looks the part, with dusty wooden floorboards, traditional carved screens and er hu music twanging in the background.
Our ten-minute consultation with the doctor feels disappointingly cursory, though; after explaining our symptoms (bad skin), he takes our pulse, studies our tongue and then pronounces we have ‘an internal cold which has affected our circulation’. Treatment options include a week’s course of Chinese herbal tinctures or acupuncture to improve circulation.
The clinic also works with Balancer Provider practitioner Sabrina Bo to offer translation services and a 'try-before-you-buy' service for expats.
