The latest addition to French chef Franck Pecol’s Ferguson Lane empire, is Farine, located in the Ferguson Lane extension on Wukang Lu – the block which also houses Grill Bull, Azul and Coconut Paradise – the light and open space features a glass counter down one side, a small coffee bar and a handful of bar stools for customers who want to eat in.
Although prices are steep (a rustic loaf will set you back 65RMB/half, 120RMB/whole), the quality is undeniable – on one of our visits, a fellow customer gushes to Pecol that she’s come all the way from Pudong just to buy a loaf. The sandwiches (35RMB) are small, but delicious. Our spicy chicken sandwich comes on a beautifully judged ciabatta, while the croque monsieur oozes bechamel and emmental cheese on top of a chunk of rustic bread layered with finely cut ham, making for a pricey, but deeply satisfying bite.
