While newly opened ‘art-centric’ mall K11 brings nothing new to the scene fashion-wise, the ‘Organic Bazaar’ on the lower basement level features a trio of natural skincare stores – still a rarity in Shanghai – and is well worth checking out.
Of the three, Organic+ (B2-31) boasts the most comprehensive selection of organic/natural goodies, imported largely from Australia and Europe, with attentive staff who’ll happily recommend products based on your budget and skin type. Here you’ll find French cosmetics giant Yves Rocher, Patyka, Bio Secure and Phyto’s silicone-free haircare range, alongside Weleda and Planet Kid’s child-friendly shampoos (128RMB), toothpaste (78RMB), soaps and moisturisers, as well as some Shanghai exclusives like the bestselling SO’BIO étic rose floral water (388RMB/200ml). For beauty from the inside out, they recommend the aloe vera juice (228RMB/500ml) which supposedly aids digestion and reduces skin pigmentation.
Next door, Korean cosmetic chain Skin Food (B2-32) isn’t new to town, but offers a more affordable take on organic, with a huge array of face masks starting at just 22RMB. Foodextracts – fruit, veg and even caviar – form the basis of most products, something that’s referenced in the cute packaging which resembles condiment bottles. We like their new line of men’s skincare; the ‘Brandy’ emulsion goes for 140RMB/170ml.
Meanwhile fans of essential oils should take a peep inside the delicious-smelling Neroly, whose 60-strong range of ACO (Australian Certified Organic) certified oils runs the gamut from lavender to frankincense and can be used straight-up in diffusers or mixed with base oils (which the store also carries) for oil burners, massage oils and moisturisers. If you don’t want to mix your own concoctions, opt for the ready-blended stress-relieving and detox massage oils (330/280RMB respectively) or what they call ‘synergy treatment oils’, such as the ‘Rejuvenate Facial Care’ oil, 238RMB/10ml: Neroly claim a couple of drops added to your regular skincare product will enhance its effects.
