This event has now passed.
From May 24 to June 30, 2024, The Sukhothai Shanghai and the French artist Michel Temman are jointly presenting an art exhibition titled “Orange Bay.” Held in collaboration with CSC Communis, the show showcases a collection of photography created by the artist during his Nordic journey and pays homage to the brilliant fjord style of Oslo, Norway.Born in Paris, Temman has lived in Asia for over 30 years, wearing many hats: journalist, writer, photographer, and artist. As a photojournalist, he has traveled across North and South America, the Middle East, South Africa, and Asia, exploring the limits of colour through different dimensions and perspectives. As a columnist of Louis Vuitton City Guide for the past decade, he has lived in Shanghai and witnessed the transformation of this city. The Sukhothai Shanghai, a landmark in the city centre listed in the Louis Vuitton City Guide in October 2023, is the epitome of an iconic travel destination.
The artworks presented in "Orange Bay" mainly come from Temman's voyage to Norway in 2016. The artist traveled there by boat, but before reaching Oslo, stopped in the Oslo Bay for a few hours so he could observe and photograph the magnificent moments of nature metamorphosis. Until this day, Michel continues to work on the Oslo series (seas, skies, fjords), playing with lights, contrasts, colours, volumes and mostly density. This series, he says, allows him to constantly question the meaning of life, and what we call beauty.
Not only does the eye-catching exhibition invite all visitors to journey through Temman's lens, but it also immerses the viewer in the rich and poetic hues of nature at The Sukhothai Shanghai, where art and design remain one of brand's pillars.
TIME OUT TIP: Inspired by "Orange Bay," the hotel bar will also be serving three specialty gin cocktails called "Orange Bay," "Azure Sky" and "Fjord Fantast."
